How To Make A Digital Business Card

You've likely heard of digital business cards before. If you haven’t made the switch, it might be a stubborn refusal to let go of the traditional paper business card or a reluctance to learn how to use a new app, but whatever your reason is, we’re here to tell you: they’re worth it. If you’ve been eyeing a Popl for a while but don’t know how to create a digital business card for yourself, we’ve got you covered.

A digital business card isn't just a great way to make a good impression on someone without having to carry around a physical business card, it's also easy to create and share!

Don’t know how to create a digital business card? Not to worry! We're here to help. Let's take a step-by-step look at how to get your digital business card up and running using Popl!

Step One: Download the Popl App

The first step is choosing your digital business card app. Popl can be downloaded from both the Play Store and the App Store.

The paid version of the app offers a vast array of integrations to workflow automation apps like Zapier and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems like HubSpot. This won't mean as much to the average person, but for someone who does a lot of online marketing or sales it can be a real godsend.

The paid version also provides you tons of extra features. You can scan paper business cards directly, customize your QR code, and embed videos. You also get access to Popl's business analytics program and 24/7 customer text support.

If you're particular about the design of your card, the paid version also gives you more control over the look and feel of your card---the better to match your unique brand.

Once you've downloaded and installed the app, go ahead and launch. You'll be prompted to create an account or log in if you've already created one.

Step Two: Choose a Template or Design Your Own

While there's no real limit on what you can put on your digital business card, the general rule of thumb is to keep it tailored to your industry. That means no photos of your pet dog or goofy memes—unless, of course, you're in the pet industry or are a comedian.

Popl offers a bevy of templates to help get you started in designing your card.

We recommend starting with one to get a feel for how the app works before moving on to designing your card from scratch. This way you'll have a better understanding of how each element of the card works and how to best use it to showcase your business.

If you want more control over how your card looks or want to use your favorite images and fonts, you can also choose to create your own design.

This takes a bit more time but can result in a truly unique card. Similarly, when it comes to your online presence, opting for custom web design provides the same level of control and uniqueness for your website.

We like taking time to design our cards but we know that's not for everyone. Choose what feels best to you!

If you're using the paid version, you can even create different digital business cards to fit different situations. You can, for instance, have separate digital cards for your personal and professional networks.

Popl offers several products to keep your digital card with you at all times. You can opt for the standard phone tags, cards, wristbands, and keychains. Custom devices are also available to get your brand name on there.

Step Three: Decide on the Info You Want to be Included

Next, you'll have to decide on what information you want to include on your digital business card. This will likely vary depending on your job and profession.

In general, you'll want to include your name, contact information (including email and website), job title, and other relevant details (such as your social media handles). You can also choose to add an image or logo design.

Freelancers might want to insert links to online payment providers as well as their handles on chat apps like Discord or Skype. Those in more creative fields, on the other hand, might want to add their portfolio, videos, personalized greetings, or other examples of their work. Don't feel limited by what we've listed—include whatever you think is necessary, as long as it's appropriate.

Note that not all of these options will be available for users of the free app. If you're designing cards just for yourself, the free version should be fine. But if you're planning on using them for business or networking purposes, upgrading to the paid app should make sense for you.

Step Four: Test Your Digital Business Card Before Sharing

Now that you have your new digital business card all set, it's time to test it out! Make sure all the information is correct and looks how you want it to.

You'll also want to test the link to your website and make sure it works properly. It's embarrassing (not to mention unprofessional) to give someone a card that leads to a 404 error page.

Once you've checked everything over, it's time to share your digital business card with the world! Popl allows you to share your card through email, social media platforms, QR code, or through Near Field Communication (NFC) technology by tapping or "popping" your Popl-equipped device against another device. No need for them to install the Popl app, either!

The four-step process we outlined is just a basic guide for creating your digital business card.

Once you get the basics of how to create a digital business card down, you can start with more advanced features. Our favorite is creating more than one digital business card to reflect different aspects of your work or personality. For instance, you can have a card for work contacts, another for social events, and a third for your personal contacts.

You can even create digital business cards for your entire team in just a few clicks. Not only is this a fantastic way to promote team unity and branding, but it can also make sharing contact information a breeze. Plus, with the Popl Teams platform, you can easily update your team’s contact information and keep everyone in the loop.

There are many other ways to customize and design your card, so feel free to explore and have fun with it!
